A vegetarian side dish with healthy soya flakes

Ingredients

  • 1 and 1/2 cups soya flakes
  • 2 tsp yoghurt
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp chilli powder
  • 1 tbsp ginger garlic paste
  • 1 tbsp almond paste
  • 2 tbsp tomato puree
  • 2 onions grated
  • 1 inch piece cinnamon
  • 2 pods cardamon
  • 2 cloves
  • 1 bay leaf (optional)
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • chopped coriander leaves for garnishing

Method

  • Soak the soya flakes in hot water for 1/2 and hour. Squeeze dry
  • Marinate the soya with a little ginger garlic paste, yoghurt, chilli powder, turmeric and salt for 1/2hour
  • Pressure cook the soya
  • Heat oil
  • Add the cinnamon, cardamon, cloves and bay leaf
  • Add the onions and cook till they are nicely browned
  • Add ginger garlic paste, turmeric powder, chilli powder and salt and saute for a while.
  • Add the almond paste
  • Drain the soya and add it to the onions and cook till the raw smell goes
  • Add the tomato puree and a little water and let it simmer till it gets a little dry
  • Garnish with chopped coriander leaves
