Description A light snack which can be served with breakfast or tea

Ingredients

  1. 1 cup semolina (sooji, rava)
  2. 1 cup chopped tomatoes
  3. 1/2 cup chopped onions
  4. 1 cup chopped mixed vegetables ( carrots,beans, peas)
  5. 2 green chillies chopped fine
  6. 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
  7. 4 tbsps oil
  8. a few curry leaves
  9. coriander leaves
  10. lime juice (optional)
  11. 1/2 teaspoon turmeric  powder
  12. salt to taste

Method of Preparation

  1. Pour a teaspoon of oil in a kadai and roast the semolina till it turns light pink and then keep it aside.
  2. Heat the remaining oil in the kadai. 
  3. Add the mustard seeds. 
  4. When the mustard seeds crackle, add the curry leaves, onions and green chillies.
  5. Saute till the onions turn translucent.
  6. Add the vegetables and tomatoes along with the turmeric powder and salt.
  7. Cook till the vegetables are almost done.
  8. Add three cups of water. 
  9. When the water boils, add the semolina gradually, stirring continuously. 
  10. Cover with a lid for a couple of minutes. 
  11. Garnish with coriander leaves.
  12. Add the juice of half a lime. (optional)
  13. Serve with coconut chutney or tomato chutney
