Description  Delicately flavoured French beans fried with moong dhal and coconut

Secret Tip  Add a pinch of sugar while the beans are cooking. This will caramelise and give a good flavour

Ingredients

  1. 2 cups French beans cut into small pieces
  2. 1 cup onions finely chopped
  3. 2 green chillies finely chopped
  4. 2 teaspoons moong dhal (soaked in water for 15 minutes)
  5. 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  6. 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  7. 2 teaspoons oil
  8. salt to taste
  9. a few curry leaves
  10. 1 tablespoon grated fresh coconut (optional)

Method of preparation

  1. Heat oil in a Kadai.
  2. Add mustard seeds and curry leaves
  3. When the mustard seeds splutter, add onions and green chillies
  4. After the onions have turned translucent add the beans, dhal, turmeric powder and salt.
  5. Add about 3 tablespoons water and  cover the kadai till the beans and dhal are done.
  6. Add grated coconut.
