Ingredients

For the pesarattu

  • 2 cups whole green gram dhal with the skin
  • 2 – 3 green chillies
  • 1 inch piece of ginger
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup finely chopped ginger, onions and green chillies

For the chutney

  • 2 cups onions finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp coriander seeds
  • 5 red chillies
  • 1 tbsp tamarind paste
  • salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp oil

Method

  • Soak the whole green gram dhal in water for 5 – 6 hours
  • Grind it to a paste along with the green chillies and ginger
  • Add salt and keep aside for 1/2 hour.
  • Heat a dosa tava and pour the batter and make it like a dosa adding a little oil.
  • Sprinkle finely chopped ginger, green chillies and onions on top before flipping to the other side.

For the Chutney

  • Heat the oil in a kadai and fry the coriander seeds, red chillies and onions till the onions turn pale pink.
  • Grind to a fine paste.
  • Add the tamarind paste and salt.
